How to mount a Roman blind?
This guide will show you how to install a Roman shade, inside or outside a window.
You will need:
Screws and dowels
Screwdriver
Drill
Hammer
Steel tape measure
large scissors
Pencil
Gum
Stool
For a Sidewinder mechanism
STEP 1
Decide on the fixing position of your Roman blind.
For mounting inside the window reveal
The Sidewinder supports allow the box to be fixed to the wall or to the ceiling of a niche (top fix).
Tip: Make sure the blind is far enough away from window handles to avoid obstructions.
For mounting outside the window reveal
This concerns the specified measurements of your custom blind. Check the positioning chosen by holding your blind against the window before installing it.
2ND STEP
Detach the brackets from the top rail by pressing the spring clip at the top front of the bracket. Position the brackets at least 30 mm from the ends of the box. Hold each up to the required position on the wall/top of the reveal and mark the screw positions. Make sure all brackets are level and neatly aligned before drilling and filling holes. Then attach the brackets.
Note: The top of the cabinet is approximately 4mm below the top of the bracket.
STEP 3
Detach the roman shade from the metal top rail by peeling it off the velcro fastener - allowing the shade to hang by the cords while waiting.
STEP 4
Now secure the top rail in place. To do this, hold the top rail with the velcro facing you, hook the front lip of the top rail into the spring clip on the front of the brackets and make sure they are pushed in. Then click the rear lip of the top rail into the rear clips on the brackets.
STEP 5
Reattach the top of the Roman shade to the headrail by aligning the Velcro strips.
Note: Need to adjust blind cords? To straighten the cords of the Roman shade, let the shade drop to the closed position. Adjust the toggles so the cords just begin to support the weight of the shade. Raise the blind using the chain mechanism, check that the hem is straight and adjust further if necessary. For blinds with more than 2 strings, adjust the outer strings first, while the others remain looser, then adjust the middle strings.
IMPORTANT: Chain loops on side-winding blind mechanisms can present a strangulation hazard to children and vulnerable persons. The blind is supplied with a plastic chain connector which will cause the chain to break when subjected to excessive tension. If the chain breaks, it can be reconnected by reclipping the chain into the connector. The chain must end at least 60 cm from the ground.
For a wired mechanism
STEP 1
Decide on the fixing position of your Roman blind.
For mounting inside the window reveal
The wooden slat allows the box to be fixed to the window frame or to the top of the niche (top fix).
Tip: Make sure the blind is far enough away from window handles to avoid obstructions.
For mounting outside the window reveal
These are the specified measurements of your custom Roman blind. Check the positioning chosen by holding your blind against the window before installing it.
2ND STEP
Detach the roman shade from the wooden slat by peeling it off the velcro fastener - allowing the shade to hang by the cords while waiting. This allows you to clearly see the positioning of the slat.
STEP 3
Hold the wooden batten in the required position on the wall/top of the reveal and mark the appropriate screw positions on the wall and on the batten. Make sure the batten is level and neatly aligned before drilling and filling holes. Then attach it to the wall/above it.
STEP 4
Reattach the top of the Roman Shade to the slat by aligning the Velcro strips.
Note: Need to adjust blind cords? To straighten the shade cords, allow the shade to lower to the closed position. With the weight of the cord threaded over the cords but not tied, and holding the cords between thumb and forefinger, lift the shade using the side cords. Check that the hem is straight and adjust until the blind hem is straight, then take up the slack on all the intermediate cords. Now tie the cords together at a suitable height to reach when the blind is closed. Check the operation of the shade before cutting the excess thread.
STEP 5
Now attach the cleat to the wall in vertical alignment with the weighted ropes. To comply with the safety law, the cleat must be installed at least 150 cm from the ground. For larger shades, to accommodate excess cord, a second cleat can be installed above the first cleat.
IMPORTANT: The height of the blind cleats and cords must be designed out of the reach of young children and vulnerable people to avoid the risk of strangulation. Excess cord should always be neatly tied around the cleat(s). The awning cord must always be at least 150 cm from the ground.
